Danica Patrick to Make Daytona 500 Debut
Former Indy car driver Danica Patrick is already one of the biggest names in professional racing, and is about to become an even bigger name when she makes her NASCAR debut at this year’s Daytona 500.
In 2008, Patrick became the first woman to win an Indy car race, and she finished third in the 2009 Indy 500. That, along with her trademark good looks, have made her a star in the racing world. Now, she will try her hand at the United States’ most popular and toughest racing circuit.
The move won’t just benefit Patrick. The already popular NASCAR circuit should also receive a boost in interest and attention because of Patrick. NASCAR posted record ratings for an ARCA racing event at Daytona Speedway last week, mainly because it was the stock car racing debut for Patrick, who spun out early in the race, but recovered to race to a respectable finish.
Patrick is still a rookie to the NASCAR circuit, and it will likely take time for her to adjust to the conditions of stock cars and the intricacies of the tracks, but there’s no doubt that she will be by far one of the most popular drivers on the NASCAR circuit.
