Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol Motor Speedway is called “the world’s fastest half mile.” It’s a great location for some of the best NASCAR action season after season.

The past four weeks in NASCAR have been high speed racing on larger tracks. That all changes this weekend, as the name of the game becomes bumping, banging, scraping, grinding and rubbing. The Food City 500 like other races at Bristol is highly capricious. The half mile track with high banks makes it easy to get involved in someone else’s calamity with very little room for sidestepping. Collisions will likely be plentiful as drivers and cars get taken out through no fault of their own.

In the past, the best drivers at Bristol have been Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon. It’s a pretty good bet that at least two of these guys will finish in the top ten. The winner at The Food City 500 can be such a wild card that it’s hard to predict a winner. Anyone can turn in a strong performance at Bristol. Winning will take a combination of skill, luck and perhaps some divine intervention.

Given these facts, it’s hard to pick a winner with any conviction let alone win an online bet. If you strong arm me I’ll go with Kyle Busch to repeat. He won last year’s Food City 500 and he’s NASCAR’s current point leader. If not Busch, let’s go with Kevin Harvick. He had a top five finish last year and always does well when it comes to racing at Bristol.
