NASCAR – Goody’s 500 preview
We’ll be able to see if Jimmie Johnson stays hot this coming Sunday at 1pm when the green flag drops in Martinsville, VA for the running of the 2010 Goody’s 500. The racing betting news is hot with the fact that Johnson will be trying to win his 5th championship in a row,Johnson has started out the 2010 season quickly, and as the defending champ in Martinsville, he is the favorite again this year.
In 2009, Johnson held off challenges from Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart to win, this year strong challenges are expected from Kurt and Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart.
One interesting note for this weekend is this will be the first race that marks the return of the old rear spoiler to the Sprint Cup cars. Gone is the wing that has been on the Cars of Tomorrow for almost three years. The rear spoiler will “loosen up” the cars a bit and should make driving in traffic more dangerous. The main thing fans will notice is it gives a retro look to these modern day cars.
Some NASCAR legends wll be honored this weekend as well. Buddy Baker, a fan favorite and former winner at Martinsville will be the race Grand Marshall. Harry Gant, Richard Petty, Ned Jarrett, and Junior Johnson will all be in town this weekend to be honored.
