NASCAR – Samsung Mobile 500 preview
Texas Motor Speedway will be the venue for the NASCAR Sumsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race on April 19, 2010. The speedway located in Ft. Worth, TX is home to some great racing every spring. It’s a tricky 1.5 mile quad-oval, similar to the tracks in Charlotte and Atlanta. It’s a relatively new track with construction beginning in 1995, but the speeds keep increasing each year.
Jeff Burton is the only two-time winner of this race. Jeff Gordon won in 2009, and Carl Edwards won in 2008. This race is getting more and more important to the teams with the close standings in the Sprint Cup points. 125 points separate the top 7 drivers in the standings. On the strength of his quick start to the season, Jimmie Johnson leads the points by 14 over Greg Biffle and 16 over Matt Kenseth. Denny Hamlin who won last week’s race isn’t even in the top 12.
Strong challenges this week should come from Tony Stewart, Biffle, Mark Martin and Dale Jr. who keeps running well each week. One of these weeks the breaks will go Dale Jr.’s way and he could be back in victory circle.
This is also a favorite track of Carl Edwards. On a side note, Peter Framton will perform the pre-race concert this week. Should be fun.
