NASCAR’S Autism Speaks Race, May 16
NASCAR’S Autism Speaks Dover International Speedway will come alive May 16. Opening in 1969, Dover originally was built to accomodate motorsports events as well as horse racing. The first auto race, the “Mason-Dixon 300, was taken by Richard Petty. In 2004 The Monster Bridge debuted. The glass-enclosed structure has a 56-seat capacity and is an enclosed structure extending over the track in Turn 3. Last year construction was done on pit road. It included a new concrete pit with safer barrier technology. The pit road was set four feet closer to the apron of the track. This, of course, made the pit road wider.
Now, 2010, the “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup” returns to Dover. The ‘Monster Mile,’ creating fame for the number of cars it destroys each race, is waiting for Busch, Earnhardt, Jr., Johnson, and all of the other great racers who will drive there on May 16.
As always Dover, a sports betting favorite, promises fans a dramatic race. The world-class drivers offer non-stop action. Right now the race is wide open with a number of drivers capable of greeting the winning flag. Although Jeff Gordon remains winless in his last 39 races he is hungry. Kyle Busch’s newfound maturity puts him in good position. Kevin Harvick is always a contender. Who knows, maybe Earnhardt, Jr. will finally pull out a win.
