NASCAR: Lenox Industrial Tools 301 Preview
On Sunday, June 27th, the NASCAR Sprint Cup series will return to Loudon, New Hampshire for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301. New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a 1.058 mile track. Drivers say that it is one of the most unique tracks that they run. The track opened in 1990 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup series started racing there in 1993.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway really is a unique track. It is similar to the Martinsville track, only bigger. The long straightaways allow drivers to work up a high speed, but the corners are very flat, which puts a heavy emphasis on braking. At times, this is one of those tracks where a careful driver is better than a fast driver.
Last year, this race was won by NASCAR lines star, Joey Logano. However, his average finish at the track is only 18th. Denny Hamlin, who has been having a spectacular year, runs great at New Hampshire. He has finished in the top ten 6 times and has an average finish of 7.5. A driver that is often overlooked but could have a great run at New Hampshire is Jeff Burton. He has won here 4 times in the past.
All in all, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at New Hampshire rarely disappoints. The track is a challenge for the drivers, and the fact that the track is just over a mile keeps the drivers from becoming too stretched out. Typically, fast speeds combined with short tempers leads to a very entertaining race.
