NASCAR: Chase Heads to Wild Card Race Talladega
The Talladega Super Speedway race is the only restrictor plate race that is included in the NASCAR Chase and the one feared most by drivers at the top of the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. Betting online experts will keep an eye on the Talladega race’s outcome. Jimmie Johnson enters this race with a mere eight point lead over Denny Hamlin and 77 points over Kevin Harvick. The problem for Johnson is that both drivers are premiere restrictor plate racers with equipment to match.
Harvick could be the driver that holds the strongest advantage heading into this race at Talladega. Harvick and the Richard Childress Racing team have improved back to their stature during the days of the late Dale Earnhardt. The restrictor plate program for RCR is now at the top of their game and Kevin Harvick is leading the way. The issue for Harvick has been the bickering within his own team between he and teammate Jeff Burton. At Martinsville neither driver was happy with the other and Richard Childress convened a meeting on Monday morning.
Other drivers, aside from the top three in the point standings that could have a great day are Jimmie Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Both drivers have a solid history on the Talladega two and a half mile super speedway. Gordon has six wins on the big track and Earnhardt Jr has five wins in his career.
Another restrictor plate savvy NASCAR driver is Kurt Busch. Busch is at the front in every NASCAR race at Daytona and Talladega but has never brought home a trophy from either track in his career. Look for Busch to be in the top five when the checkered flag is unfurled on Lap 188.
