NASCAR Heads to Charlotte for B of A 500: Johnson Favorite to Win

Jimmie Johnson and his No.48 Lowe’s Chevy team have a history of domination at the Charlotte Motor Speedway which is sponsored by the same company that has sponsored Jimmie Johnson since he entered NASCAR Sprint Cup.

The Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s default name is “Jimmie’s House.” Nicknamed long before Cowboys Stadium in Arlington was nicknamed. “Jerry’s House.” Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus have long been known for being able to adjust their car from daylight to dark in the Memorial Day Weekend Race, the only 600 mile race on the schedule. When many said Johnson could not win in the Fall he quickly proved them wrong.

Jimmie Johnson now enters the fall race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with the NASCAR Sprint Cup points lead as the series visits his favorite track. Life is not fair and although Jimmie Johnson is the odds favorite to win the race this weekend there are still a few spoilers waiting in the wings.

A good candidate to spoil Jimmie Johnson’s weekend is Kurt Busch. Busch was knocked out of the California race last weekend while making a run at the top ten with a car that was loose and difficult to drive. Busch was caught up in David Ragan’s mistake on the front stretch with less than 20 laps to go.

Busch won the Sprint Cup All-Star Race and the 600 one weekend later to sweep Charlotte and beat Jimmie Johnson in “Jimmie’s House.” When Busch and his mad scientist/crew chief, Steve Addington are in sync they are unbeatable. Look for Kurt Bush and Addington to make up some points this weekend.

Another possible spoiler is Kasey Kahne. Kahne has run well at this track also and his Richard Petty Motorsports team is making improvements every week. Sad to see Kahne leaving this team while it is making steady progress at the end of the season.
