NASCAR Sprint Cup 2010: Martinsville Will be Battle of Point Leaders
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase heads to the only short track in the Chase, Martinsville Speedway. The two best drivers on the Virginia paperclip are the two point leaders in the Chase. Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin both claim Martinsville as one of their favorite tracks. For betting experts this race will be quite an interesting one.
Jimmie Johnson has long dominated this track since coming into the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Jimmie Johnson has won six races at Martinsville with four of those races being won in the NASCAR Chase. Johnson also has finished second twice and third twice on the flat Martinsville half mile.
Martinsville is the race that sets up the final run to the championship and this is the main reason Johnson has dominated the NASCAR Chase the last four years. Qualifying is the key to Johnson’s success at Martinsville but he has won from as far back as 20th position.
Denny Hamlin is the also dominant at Martinsville. Hamlin has three wins and is the defending race winner of the fall race. Hamlin also makes the top five consistently in his home state track. Hamlin’s worst finish in his career at Martinsville is eighth if his one crash is thrown out of the equation.
If anything does happen to Johnson and Hamlin in this race look for Jeff Gordon to be waiting in the wings. Gordon was the most dominant driver on the Martinsville track before Johnson arrived on the scene. Gordon has won seven times and his worst finish at Martinsville is ninth since 2003.
