Edwards Win of Miami-Homestead Ford 400 Overshadowed by Johnson’s 5th Title
Carl Edwards went on to win his second consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup race to finish the season on a high note but he was overshadowed by the second place finisher, Jimmie Johnson who is a favorite among online betting fans. Johnson locked up his fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship with his No. 48 Lowe’s team.
Johnson ran up front for the entire race at Miami but he won this championship in Phoenix the previous week. Denny Hamlin had a healthy lead in the points when NASCAR headed to Phoenix but the No.11 FedEx Toyota team miscalculated their fuel mileage and Jimmie Johnson and company lowered the point lead to 15 points heading into Miami-Homestead for the final race of the season.
With such a slim point lead over the four time consecutive NASCAR champ, Hamlin let his nerves and maturity get the best of him. Hamlin qualified 37th in Miami, a race in which he was the defending champ. When Hamlin won the 2009 Ford 400 he started 38th but this year the circumstances were much different.
By burying himself so deep in the field, Hamlin gave the advantage to Jimmie Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus. They did not squander their opportunities and Johnson kept himself firmly in the top ten all race long. Hamlin was working his way through the field when he made contact with Greg Biffle and was sent spinning through the grass. The subsequent damage resulted in recurring issues with the splitter and the car was loose as a result for the remainder of the race.
