Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards has been having a rather disappointing year so far. Two years ago Edwards was the 2nd best driver in NASCAR, finishing only behind Jimmie Johnson on the year and was able to win 9 individual races. Despite the hype that surrounded him, he let down many fans last year by only finishing 11th in the cup series. After winning 9 races the previous year he failed to win any last year.
Despite his poor season last year most felt he would find his way back towards the top 5 drivers in the league. Instead of improving, Edwards has actually shown signs of tanking again as he sits in the 14th spot in the points standings on the season.
He actually has managed to finish in the top 15 of all but one race, including three top 10 finishes on the year. He put up a poor showing at Atlanta however, only bringing home 46 points with a 39th place finish.
One of the worries behind Edwards this year is the fact that he has not led a single lap in a race so far. Without leading any laps he missed out on a plethora of bonus points and he finds himself 171 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Edwards needs to find a way to take a lead in one of these upcoming races and find if he still has what it takes to secure a lead and win a race. If a win doesn’t come soon you can expect confidence to become an issue for Edwards as he hasn’t won a race in over a year.
