Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has long been one of the most famous drivers in the NASCAR sport but has yet to live up to the fame and hype that accompanies his name. He has not finished in the top 10 of the standings since 2006, when he was 6th in the standings.
Early in his career Earnhardt Jr. looked like a solid prospect, some even thought he would be better than his father was. In 2003 and 2004 he was 3rd in the standings each year and many thought he was on his way to stardom. He has nearly fallen off the charts since then when talking about contenders for the cup standings.
Earnhardt Jr. has not won more than one race in a season since 2004 when he won 6 and will need to find away to finish first if he wants to jump back into things. This season he has been the best he has been in a few years, sitting at 10th place in the points standings, 159 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Earnhardt Jr. started out the season with a 2nd place finish at Daytona, the biggest race of NASCAR and also managed a top ten finish in Bristol. He has been solid in all but one other race, where he finished 32nd at California.
Earnhardt Jr. seems to still have the potential to be a great driver but will need to find consistency on a race to race basis. If he can have a solid finish every week and stay away from those 20th and 30th place finishes he can get back into being a top 10 driver in the sport.
