Denny Hamlin
Denny Hamlin may be the most disappointing driver in NASCAR so far this season. Many predicted that Hamlin would be the driver that had the best chance of dethroning Jimmie Johnson this year. Instead of heading on the path to glory, Denny Hamlin has been very mediocre.
Hamlin has managed just one race in the top 15 so far this season. The good news is that race was his last race and was a victory in Martinsville. Hamlin fans are hoping that this is a sign of Hamlin returning to his old self.
Last year Hamlin finished 5th in the standings and only seemed to be improving. One difference between this year and his past seasons has been his average start position. Throughout his career Hamlin has had an average start position of about 15th. This year however his average position has been much worse, as he has averaged a 22nd position in starting.
If Hamlin can get a car on the track that is competitive he has shown that he can win races, evidenced by his win at the last race in Martinsville. His best start on the season so far has been 15th place, which is actually fairly disappointing.
A lot of things need to change in order to have some consistency for Hamlin. He has the potential to be near the top, but things just aren’t working this year. Look for some changes to be made as the season goes on and for Hamlin to pull it together and make it into the top ten.
