Jeff Burton

Jeff Burton leads a pack of drivers that are in the secondary level of drivers so far this season. Burton has finished with just 2 top ten finishes so far this year despite leading the race in 4 different races so far this season.

The Race at Martinsville was a big disappointment for the Jeff Burton team. Burton managed to lead the race for 140 laps on the day after starting in the 7th position.  Despite his ability to grab the lead for a large chunk of the race, Burton managed just a 20th place finish after all was said and done.

In the 4 races that Burton has held a lead at some point in the race, his finishes are 20th, 10th, 20th, and 3rd.  A third place finish is solid and acceptable, but if Burton hopes to move up to the next level of drivers this year he is going to need to learn how to take a lead and then hold onto it for the rest of the race.

The glory days of Jeff Burton ended in the year 2000. After finishing in the top 5 in the standings for 4 consecutive years, Burton has failed to do so for 9 straight seasons.  Since the year 2000, Burton has not won more than 2 races in any season.

Burton has the opportunity to turn things around this year and resurrect his career. It all depends on whether he can learn to sustain those leads that he has been so successful at taking so far this year.
