A third place finish is solid and acceptable, but if Burton hopes to move up to the next level of drivers this year he is going to need to learn how to take a lead and then hold onto it for the rest of the race.
The glory days of Jeff Burton ended in the year 2000. After finishing in the top 5 in the standings for 4 consecutive years, Burton has failed to do so for 9 straight seasons. Since the year 2000, Burton has not won more than 2 races in any season.
Burton has the opportunity to turn things around this year and resurrect his career. It all depends on whether he can learn to sustain those leads that he has been so successful at taking so far this year.
