Joey Lagano
Joey Lagano is in the 13th position in the Spring Cup points standings so far this year and is 170 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson. Despite this great deficit Lagano has shown flashes of excellence on the season.
Lagano has managed to finish in the top ten three times this season, including the races at Las Vegas, California, and most recently Martinsville. His best finish of the season was at Martinsville, where he finished 2nd on the day, earning 170 points towards the season standings.
Lagano has been in the top 5 twice this season, showing he has top end potential. The struggle with Lagano has not been his ability to finish high, but rather his ability to turn a bad race into a decent one. The best drivers in the league can often avoid finishing in the 20’s and 30’s in most races. Lagano has spent half of the races this season in the top 10 and the other half in the 20’s and 30’s.
If Lagano hopes to move up this season those poor finishes need to be salvaged for top 20 finishes. If he can do that he has the potential to be one of the best drivers in NASCAR.
Lagano is just a 2nd year driver and his inexperience might have something to do with his inconsistent performances. Lagano looks as though he may have a promising career ahead of him, possibly going into the top 10 in his second full season of driving in the Sprint series.
