Matt Kenseth

Matt Kenseth is a former Sprint Cup Champion and has the potential to be one of the top drivers in the league, but it’s been a while since Kenseth has been there at the top of the series. There have been 6 full seasons that have passed since Kenseth has found himself in the top driver spot.  The last time he led the league in points standing was at the end of the 2003 season.

This season Kenseth is starting off better than expected. Many people predicted him to be at best a top 10 driver this season, but he has been beating the critics so far, sitting in the 3rd place spot in the cup standings, just 16 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson and 2 points behind 2nd place Greg Biffle.

Kenseth has been towards the front end of almost every race this season so far, posting 5 top ten finishes and 3 of those were in the top five finishers. He has not yet won a race, and has only led for 9 laps on the entire season, but any time you race near the front you give yourself a good chance at a victory.

The key to Kenseth’s success will be the quality of cars that his crew is able to put out. Kenseth is a great racer and has been known to have strong finishes with poor cars, but it will not be possible for him to pass up the likes of Jimmie Johnson with just an average car. He will need to have one of the top cars if he hopes to win this thing.

Kenseth will just need to continue to race towards the front and try to grab a few wins as the season goes on. He has never been known as a racer who takes a lot of wins, but rather a top 10 finisher. If he hopes to change that he will need to start posting some big victories.
